JOB VACANCY – MANAGING ATTORNEY
Pee Dee Office
South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) is a nonprofit statewide civil law firm established to provide free civil legal services to eligible low income residents of South Carolina. SCLS has approximately 49 attorneys working in 13 offices throughout the state.
SCLS seeks a Managing Attorney for its newly created Pee Dee region which will be housed in Florence. Duties include, but are not limited to, efficient management of assigned staff of attorneys, paralegals, and support personnel; oversees the effective administration of office; maintains a caseload; handles employee concerns, work schedules, conducts performance appraisals, assigns and reviews progress of all current cases and assignments; plans, directs and uses information effectively in order to enhance activities and production of the office; prepares and reviews reports and statistical information to be disseminated to management; conducts initial investigations and resolutions of grievances lodged by the public and staff; and coordinates, conducts, and participates in community outreach/legal education events.
The position requires skills in supervising legal and non-legal staff, interpersonal communication, coordinating casework, and the administration of office logistics and maintenance. He/she has substantial responsibility for the extent and quality of legal services provided to clients, the oversight of various personnel, and administrative and development issues in the program. Applicants should have a commitment to the goals and ideals of legal services programs dedicated to serving low income people.
The applicants must have a minimum of five years experience and be licensed to practice in South Carolina or eligible to apply for admission to the South Carolina Bar at the first available opportunity. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in poverty law and/or public interest work. Salary is dependent on experience with excellent fringe benefits package.
QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Juris Doctorate
▪ Minimum of five years experience practicing civil law
▪ Supervisory experience preferred
▪ Strong leadership, communications (oral and written) and organizational skills
▪ Demonstrated professional demeanor
▪ Computer literacy

JOB VACANCY – PARALEGAL (LEP)

South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) is a non-profit law firm established to provide free civil legal services to eligible low income residents of South Carolina. SCLS has approximately 49 attorneys working in 13 offices located throughout the state.
SCLS seeks a Paralegal for its Limited English Proficiency program to service the Spanish language communities of South Carolina. The position requires paralegal work of varying scope and complexity to assist with representation in the areas of housing, family law, public benefits, consumer law, employment, education, migrant, and community development. This position will also coordinate outreach activities to the Hispanic community throughout the state. While primarily housed in the Columbia office, the LEP Paralegal has statewide responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Graduation from an accredited paralegal program or accredited 2-year or 4-year college
▪ Bilingual capacity in Spanish
▪ Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills in both English and Spanish
▪ Knowledge of legal principles and legal research methods
▪ Knowledge of legal terminology, court system and legal procedures
▪ Ability to draft legal instruments and documents
▪ Excellent computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office and/or WordPerfect
▪ Work experience translating documents, oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish
▪ Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends

JOB VACANCY – WEBMASTER/INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) seeks a full-time Webmaster/Information Technology Support Specialist to assist the Information Technology Manager with a variety of technology support functions. The position’s primary responsibilities will be to monitor, improve and update the performance of South Carolina Legal Services’ three websites and SCLS’ intranet. Duties include, but are not limited to, designing SCLS’ web pages, including graphics, animation and functionality; implementing search engine strategies; promoting client and advocate websites online to increase prominence within the web community; overseeing the day-to-day management of SCLS’ websites, maintaining the websites to ensure easy navigation, ensuring that the websites work properly and access to information is efficiently organized, and ensuring all information is relative and current.
